Gabriel J Rivera is a composer from San Juan, Puerto Rico currently residing in Northern California. He composes for acoustic and electroacoustic music. In his composition, Rivera explores different textures and timbre to create his musical world. Rivera is currently collaborating with saxophonist Dylan Ward, to compose 24 miniatures for alto saxophone and electronics. His Master in Music Composition Thesis titled “La Ventana de mi imaginación”  a composition forpercussionist, narrator and fixed media was premiered by percussionist Alex Smith.  His composition Vortices for two alto saxophones and prepared piano was toured by Trio Dionysus, where they performed it on their Michigan Tour, and the Avaloch Farm Music Institute. Rivera orchestral piece has been performed by the Conservatorio de Música de Puerto Rico. Rivera also composes music for motion picture. In 2015-16, Rivera worked with the score for Wanderlust, foreign bodies in transit, a full feature autobiographical documentary by two women about traveling from Egypt to Germany.

He received his Master of Music degree in Composition from Michigan State University and his B.M. from the Conservatorio de Música de Puerto Rico. His musical advisors include Ricardo Lorenz, Mark Sullivan, Alfonso Fuentes, Manuel Ceide, and Armando Ramirez.
